Cabot became a certified B Corp in 2012, and was the world’s first dairy cooperative and cheesemaker to do so. We decided to pursue B Corp certification because as a co-op, we believe that businesses can be profitable AND take care of the land, communities, and its workforce. This certification reinforces our commitment to crafting high-quality dairy products, caring for the land, and enriching communities for generations to come.
What is a B Corp?
B Corp certified companies believe that business can be a force for good. Much like our farmer-owners have programs that verify their commitment to animal care, workforce development, and land stewardship, it made sense for Cabot to have a third party verify our business performance.
Companies interested in becoming B Corp certified must meet minimum requirements in several topics including workplace culture, environment, governance structure, and community impact. When you see the B Corp logo, you can trust that the company has been vetted by a neutral third party and that their impact is valid.
Why Does B Corp Certification Matter?
As a co-op, we understand that our farms and creameries are part of a diverse landscape and that together with our neighbors, we can work to build strong, vibrant communities and businesses. Our B Corp values are an extension of the principles of transparency, accountability, and social and environmental responsibility that we hold dear as a co-op.
B Corp certification challenges us to think critically and improve how we source, craft and deliver our products in a way that thinks about the land, our workers, and communities. From upcycling water at our Cabot, VT campus to integrating technologies to ensure a more comfortable workplace, you can see our purpose in action at work every day.
