Easy Homemade Pet Treat Recipes

For over 100 years, the dairy farmers of Cabot Creamery Cooperative have counted dairy cows among the members of their extended families. Since 1919, they have joined together in work and play – producing the fresh milk that goes into making the World’s Best Cheddar.

Northeast Kingdom Cheesy Bones

  • 8 ounces Cabot Lite50 Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup Smart Balance margarine
  • ¼ cup Egg Beaters
  • 1½ cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1½ cups wheat germ
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 Tbsp skim milk
  1. Blend the cheese and margarine together using an electric mixer. Add the Egg Beaters, and beat on high. Stir in the flour, wheat germ, salt and milk, mixing well. Store in refrigerator in plastic bag for 1 hour.
  2. Roll dough out onto a floured work surface to a quarter inch thick. Use bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 375°F for 15 to 18 minutes.

Cheesy Cabot Catnip Balls

  • ½ pound ground chicken or turkey
  • 1 small carrot — finely grated
  • 2 Tbsp. Cabot Lite50 Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp. brewer’s yeast
  • 1 tsp. dried catnip
  • ½ cup whole wheat bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup Egg Beaters
  • 2 Tbsp. Cabot Cottage Cheese
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine meat, cheese, yeast, catnip, and bread crumbs in a medium bowl.
  3. Add the egg and cottage cheese and mix well. Wet hands and roll the mixture into small meatballs and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake for about 15 minutes until the meatballs are brown and firm.
  5. Cool the meatballs completely before storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator or they can be frozen for up to three months. Dogs love these yummy treats, too. In their case, catnip is optional.

Your pets will be begging for more - and you'll have fun creating these treats for your fur family. These also make great gifts for all your dog and cat loving friends and family.
