Wine & Cheese Pairings

Wine & Cheese Pairings

It’s that time of the year when holiday parties are in full swing. And around here we know that no good party is complete without wine and cheese!

While it’s easy enough to pick up whatever wine catches your eye at the store, there’s actually some science behind pairing certain wines and cheeses together for the best combination of flavors.

Here are a few pairing pointers to consider:

  • If you’re drinking Cabernet Sauvignon, try pairing it with an Extra Sharp Cheddar cheese. The full body of the wine helps bring out the bold flavor qualities of a strong cheese.
  • If you like Merlot, pair it with a Garlic Herb Cheddar cheese. The dry fruitiness of the Merlot blends well with sharp or tangy cheeses and the garlic and herb bites back.
  • If you choose Chardonnay, pair it with Mild Cheddar or Colby Jack. The crisp and fruity wine enhances the creaminess of the milder cheeses making them almost sweet.
  • If you’re drinking Moscato, try pairing it with Pepper Jack! The sweetness of the wine blends surprisingly well with spicier cheeses.
